I Found Kittens Outside

Never trap a cat without a follow up plan!
If you find a kitten or kittens outside, follow these instructions:
1. Look, but don’t touch.
Look for the mother cat and siblings that might be in the area. Look to see if the kittens are healthy and what age they might be. Wait 3–4 hours for mom to appear.
2. Make a plan!
If mom is nearby, the kittens look healthy, and they look under 2 months old, leave them be! The kittens need to continue nursing.
If mom does not return within 3–4 hours, or if the kittens seem sick, immediate intervention is necessary. Reach out to as many local rescues as possible for assistance and guidance. Be prepared to not find immediate placement, as most shelters and rescues are flooded with requests daily.

Good Mews offers trap rentals with a refundable deposit, and we can provide trapping advice when you are struggling to catch a cat. Please note that the demand for trapping assistance across the state is significant, and many organizations are overwhelmed with requests. Any support you can provide, whether it is providing temporary holding space or assisting with transportation, can make a meaningful difference for volunteer trapping groups.

I've Already Trapped a Cat

If you have trapped a cat outside of our available appointment window, please contact other clinics immediately to find a TNVR appointment. You will need to call or email to confirm with any organization before bringing cats.

TNVR at Good Mews

In addition to the spay/neuter surgery, our TNVR package includes injectable pain medication, Rabies and FVRCP vaccines, subcutaneous fluids, and a small surgical tattoo and ear-tip. All cats treated through our TNVR program must be ear-tipped and tattooed.

If the cat is coming to us from Cobb County, our TNVR standard surgery package is completely free of charge. For those outside of Cobb, our standard TNVR surgery package is $45.

Why do we ear-tip and tattoo?

This visual marker lets trappers, animal control, and veterinarians know that the cat has already been fixed and vaccinated.

How do I place an indoor or friendly cat?

To get your cat on a waitlist for placement at Good Mews, please email any information and photos about your cat to placement@goodmews.org. Never abandon your pet. Abandonment puts their life at risk and is illegal.

How can I get medical assistance for an outdoor cat?

Please use our Medical Resources List to find a vet near you who is equipped to handle fractious, outdoor cats.

How do I relocate a community cat colony?

Relocation is considered a last resort, as the only safe relocation available is through Working cat or Barn Cat programs. If relocation seems like the only option, please read through Alley Cat Allies’ list of resources.
