Improved Outcomes

At any given time, more than 100 cats are waiting for homes through Good Mews, each with their own unique personality and story. Our adoption process is designed to create lasting matches—not just quick placements. Our experienced Adoption Counselors will help you find the right companion for your home and lifestyle while providing the education and support needed to set both you and your new cat up for success.

World-Class Care

The Individualized Support They Need

Good Mews provides our residents with excellent nutrition and extensive medical care. Because of our exceptional facility, staff, and volunteers, we’re even able to accommodate cats with dietary restrictions and unique medical conditions.

Our Cats

A Cage-Free Environment

A More Comfortable, Enriching Experience

Our kitties roam the shelter, climb cat trees, and cuddle all day long. The only time our cats are caged is for medical observation and a mandatory two-week quarantine period upon their arrival at the shelter.

Giving Them Second Changes

Healing and Transforming Lives

Many of our residents arrive abused, neglected, afraid, and in urgent need of medical attention. Because of our resources and dedicated staff and volunteers, we can give them the care and love they need to be healthy and trust humans again.

Our Adoption Process

Our adoption process is designed to create the most successful possible outcomes for all of our cats and their adoptive families. The full process may take 1–2 hours. For more information, please review our Adoption FAQ and Policies section below.

Interested in Adopting a Working Cat?

Working cats are unsocialized cats, often considered unadoptable by shelters, but still deserving of a safe place to live. Although they are unfit for the indoors, they thrive in environments where they can patrol for rodents and other pests, providing an eco-friendly, chemical-free solution to pests.

Fit for a Variety of Locations

Working cats thrive in warehouses, breweries, wineries, auto shops, junkyards, greenhouses, backyards, alleys, gardens, and more.

Adopt at Zero Cost to You

Good Mews will adopt working cats at zero cost to the adopter, with all fees covered by donors and grants.

They Arrive Ready to Work

Our working cats are healthy, sterilized, and vaccinated. And we will provide you with food, a litter box, and support from our team.

Giving Cats Second Chances

Adopting a working cat gives one cat a second chance and helps Good Mews rescue another at-risk cat from a municipal shelter.

Adoption FAQ and Policies

Everything you need to know about adopting with Good Mews.
Can I just walk in to adopt?
Yes! We are open on weekends only and welcome walk-ins during our weekend hours. If you prefer to come in on a weekday, you can schedule a weekday appointment by emailing adopt@goodmews.org.
You can submit an application online from our CATalog page prior to your appointment or fill it out once you get to the shelter. If you submit an application online, you’ll need to visit our shelter, so we can help you select the perfect kitty!
You only need one application for all of our cats.
Good Mews has the right to refuse an applicant for any reason. All submitted applications become the property of Good Mews.
You must be 21 or older to adopt from Good Mews.
We will need to see a photo ID bearing your current address. If you rent, we require a copy of your signed lease agreement outlining pet requirements and the name and phone number of your landlord.
We suggest you bring as many members of your household as possible, including children, to be sure that your family and the cat are compatible.
We are unable to hold or promise a particular cat until you have visited our shelter in person.
All good mews cats have been examined by a veterinarian, tested for FELV and FIV, spay or neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines. Records and information regarding any other vetting, surgery, or bloodwork that may have been completed prior to adoption will be provided to the adopter.
Some cats are bonded and are required to be adopted together. In this case, the adoption fee for a bonded pair is only the cost of a SINGLE adoption.
We only allow kittens under the age of 8 months to be adopted by pet parents who already have another cat or kitten in their house, or in pairs from the shelter if the home does not already have a cat in residence. This is because kittens thrive in environments with other cats, so they can learn to socialize, be better behaved, and are less likely to exhibit destructive behavior out of boredom.
Yes! All adopted cats receive a complimentary bag of Science Diet cat food and a variety of items generously donated by our supporters, including toys! If you’re a new cat owner, we have a Thrifty Kitty store in our lobby, where you can find a large variety of second-hand and unused cat care supplies, at highly reduced prices.
For the adoption fee, we accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
No cat is ever euthanized to make room for another, and euthanasia is ONLY performed when a veterinarian has diagnosed that the cat’s quality of life is severely and permanently compromised by sickness or injury.

I went to Good Mews looking for an older cat. I told them what I was looking for, and they found me the perfect cat. It was a fantastic experience.
