Our Pet Pantries are here to help neighbors across Cobb County keep their pets fed and at home. Whether you need support or want to give back, these community pantries make it easy to help one another.

No paperwork. No ID. No questions asked.

Approved by our resident kitty supervisors.

The Good Mews Pet Pantries are small, stand-alone pet food pantries built by volunteers and placed throughout Cobb County. They’re stocked with donated food for cats and dogs and are available to anyone who needs help feeding their pet.

 

Why We Built Them

At Good Mews, we believe pets are family. We also understand that life can be unpredictable and for many families, pet food can become a real hardship. Our Pet Pantries currently provide free pet food in Smyrna, Powder Springs, and Acworth, helping families care for the pets they love during difficult times. By offering this simple resource, we can help prevent pets from being surrendered to shelters and keep them where they belong, at home.

These pantries also support compassionate community members who care for outdoor and community cats. Whether a cat lives inside a home or outside in the neighborhood, access to food helps keep them healthy and cared for.

At the same time, these pantries give our community a meaningful way to give back. A single bag of food can make a real difference for a neighbor and for the animals they care for.

At Good Mews, we care about every cat—whether they live in a home or out in the community. Supporting community cats also goes hand-in-hand with our work to provide free spay and neuter services throughout Cobb County.

Where the Food Comes From

All food comes from community donations. Some items come from individuals with extra supplies. Others come from pet food drives or supportive businesses. The cats at the shelter like to think of themselves as the official supervisors, making sure their fellow pets across the county stay fed.

Give What You Can. Take What You Need

Each pantry runs on a simple idea: Share what you have. Take what you need.

  • Donations must be unopened and in original packaging.
  • Please only donate items that are still within the expiration date.
  • If you need food, take whatever helps. There’s no paperwork, no ID, and no judgment.

 

Feeding Your Pet Safely

We do our best to check and rotate pantry supplies, but we can’t guarantee the quality of every item. We encourage you to take a moment to check food before offering it to your pet:

  • Check expiration dates.
  • Inspect the packaging. Don’t use food with broken seals, tears, or swelling.
  • Look and smell before serving. If it seems off, it’s best to throw it out.
  • Introduce new food slowly, especially if your pet has a sensitive stomach.

By using the pantry, you agree to use your best judgment. You accept responsibility for checking the food before offering it to your pet.

You can make a direct impact by donating to our community pet pantry program.
Donations can be placed directly in any pantry, dropped off at the Good Mews shelter, or shipped to us through our Amazon Wish List for added convenience.

Kitten season is here, and demand for food is at its highest. We are especially in need of:

• Kitten food (wet and dry)
• Puppy food (wet and dry)

Other Ways to Help

There are many ways to support our Pet Pantry program beyond donating food:

• Host a food drive at your workplace, school, or in your neighborhood
• Volunteer to help build, stock, or maintain a pantry near you. Volunteer page
• Follow Good Mews Animal Foundation and join the GM Kitty Klub on social media
• Share our posts to help spread the word and reach more people in need

Host a Pet Pantry

We’re looking to expand our Pet Pantry program throughout Cobb County, but we can only do that with the help of local business or property owners willing to host a pantry on-site.

Due to limited volunteer capacity, we’re only able to pursue new locations when the business or property owner contacts us directly. We are not able to follow up on location suggestions or outreach requests.
