Join a certified yoga instructor for a one-hour, beginner-level “Yoga with Cats” class at Good Mews. Expect a few giggles along the way as the cats roam freely among class participants and may even curl up for a nap on a yoga mat. Classes are limited to 15 students and take place in the main cat room at Good Mews, 3805 Robinson Rd., Marietta. Minimum age is 18. Your $20 class fee will go directly to the care of the cats and kittens in our shelter. Grab your yoga mat and we hope to see you there! Meowmaste!

sound journey

$20 per session – Registration required
Space is limited

Come join the cats at Good Mews for our new Sound Journey Class. This is a one hour class dedicated to total relaxation for people and the kitties at Good Mews. This class will be held in our main cat area and participants can either sit or lie on their own blanket or yoga mat or sit in chairs.

The classes will be led by Michael Murphy Burke, Sound Artist/Sound Therapist/Spoken Word Artist. Michael is a Vibrational Sound Therapist (VST) certified through the International Sound Therapy Association (ISTA). He was awarded the ISTA Sound Ambassador Award in 2015 for outstanding service to the broadening of the power of sound and vibrational therapy. Michael will use Tibetan singing bowls and other unique sound instruments to create a night of vibrational bliss for the cats and people who attend. Most people find that the sounds and vibrations reduce stress and create a deep sense of peace that impacts their well-being.

Space is limited to 18 attendees. The class is $20 and since Michael is kind enough to donate his time and talent, all proceeds benefit the cats and kittens of Good Mews. What could be better than taking this journey along with the residents of Good Mews? Just bring a yoga mat or blanket. No experience necessary.

Reading to Cats event

reading to cats

FREE – Donations welcome – Registration required

*Reading to Cats is on summer break and will resume in the fall*
Does your child in grade 1-8 need extra reading practice or would he/she like to spend time helping socialize shelter cats by reading aloud to them? Our Reading to Cats program is designed to help students gain more confidence in their reading skills and to provide enrichment for the cats and kittens. The interaction also teaches kids the importance of empathy, animal welfare, and community service.

Each 60-minute reading session can accommodate a maximum of 10 students and one parent or guardian must accompany up to two students. Weekday sessions are great for home-schoolers. We have expanded the number of sessions for June and July.

Students should bring a book to read and wear comfortable clothing – long pants and closed-toe shoes—as they will be sitting on the floor and interacting with the cats. The reading sessions are offered at no charge, but donations are always welcome.
