remembering
Gloria Skeen Cornell

It is with a heavy heart we announce Gloria Skeen Cornell, Founder of Good Mews Animal Foundation, passed away peacefully, on Monday, July 11, 2022.

Gloria’s passion for animal welfare was no secret. She became inspired early in life after witnessing animal abuse and vowed to one day do what she could to put an end to it. Her determination to help every cat possible started in her townhome in 1988, the “birth” of Good Mews. Fast forward to today, 34 years later, two shelter location changes, and many wonderful community programs added within the organization, Good Mews is now more than just Atlanta’s first cage-free, no-kill animal shelter. It’s a place where thousands of homeless kitties found their forever home, a place that helped Cobb County Animal Services achieve no-kill status, a place that provides on-site TNR services to surrounding low-income areas, and an inviting place many consider a home away from home. Although there are many more programs and community involvement that have come to fruition since Gloria’s founding, we wouldn’t be here without her.

Gloria, we thank you for your vision and determination in the creation of this wonderful place that is so important in our community and which holds a special place in the hearts of all who cross our threshold. The many thousands of cats we have been able to save are indebted to you and Good Mews is forever grateful for you.

Gloria’s passion for finding good homes for good kitties remains a shared vision among the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and all involved with the organization. Though the organization’s continued commitment, her legacy will shine bright and continue on.

Sincerely,

Good Mews Animal Foundation
Board of Directors
