Over 50 Persian cats were confiscated from an unlicensed breeder in Jefferson, Georgia a few weeks ago. Good Mews rescued 15 of these amazing cats today. They are all in need of medical attention and some serious grooming. This is a costly undertaking for us as none of the 15 were spayed or neutered and most have medical conditions.
UPDATE: Last week, all 15 Persians were bathed and shaved down. Under all of the mats, we found painful skin lesions, ringworm and parts of their skin had urine scald due to laying in their own filth. Valentino, the big daddy of the group, is in the best shape and will be neutered on Monday. All of the rest need lots of recovery time before being altered and will be going into available foster homes!

Thank you to everyone who came out today to support our first microchipping clinic. We met so many wonderful people and had so much fun seeing all of the cats and dogs! Our first clinic was very successful!!
For those of you who got your animals chipped; please allow 3-4 weeks for Home Again to have your pet registered with your information. Until then, your pet is registered with Good Mews since all of the chips were currently registered to us!
Thank you to all of our volunteer veterinarians and vet techs for helping us today!
Thank you also to Grant with Crizo Pet Products for bringing out his beautiful cat trees and Jerry with Pawsibilities in Roswell for the wonderful organic dog and cat food sample bags.
I’ve made a donation today in memory of my kitty, Prudence. She was adopted from Good Mews on a very cold and windy New Year’s Eve in the early 1990’s. Volunteer Christi Fisher spent hours with me to find just the right kitty to take home. At the time, Prudence was around 5 years old and had been a resident of the shelter (then on Sandtown Road) for more than 3 years! Christi told me that Pru tended to be a little standoffish with prospective adopters, but that she was quite affectionate. It didn’t take but a minute for her to warm up to me and bury her nose in the crook of my arm.
Prudence knew immediately that she had found a home and she rewarded me every day with purrs and rubs and cat calls. She was very vocal and very social – all visitors to my home were greeted and asked a series of questions. She kept a close eye on repairmen and made sure everyone had the opportunity to pet her. But please, don’t pick her up, she’ll come to you. She withstood the adoption of two other Good Mews cats over the years, but preferred to think she was the only cat in the house. I had to make the difficult decision to let the old girl go today. She was my devoted companion for 14 years and will be greatly missed. I hope more shelter visitors will consider the slightly aloof, older cat when then come to the shelter – they’ll be rewarded greatly for many years.

Mars is a bit shy with people he doesn’t know, but he loves to play with feather toys. He’s also quite the ladies’ man and is often found napping with his girlfriend Reba; they would like to find a home together where they can continue their love affair.
Carrie Murtha, a Good Mews volunteer has started her own line of art work called the Snip Pets!
What exactly IS a SnipPet?
It’s simple. A snip~pet is…
1-PET art created with SNIPS of paper, paint and clay.
2-a PET that has been spayed or neutered...the kindest SNIP of all!
Make sure YOUR pet is a SnipPet...it is the only way to stop pet overpopulation and the consequent euthansasia of millions of healthy, adoptable cats and dogs EVERY year!
From Carrie: “I will donate 10% of any art sales generated by you directly to your Spay/Neuter efforts. I always ask each customer how/where they heard about the SnipPets, so that i can easily track what group to donate to. In addition, I am developing products featuring my SnipPet mascots, Stuart and Sunny SnipPet, and 100% of the profits from those items will go toward your spay/neuter efforts.
In addition, 10% of the selling price will go to the best cat shelter in the world, Good Mews. I will donate that percentage to their spaying and neutering efforts.”
Please check out her wonderful products by clicking Snip~Pets. Also check out more about her artwork and her spay neuter efforts in helping our furry friends at Snip-Pet-Blog.
Another great holiday gift idea for you and your friends and an added bonus of helping the Good Mews kitties!
