Open House

Our open house this past weekend was huge success! We had so many new friends visiting our shelter who enjoyed tours both Friday and Saturday.
Good_Mews
Thank you to all of the adoption counselors, community outreach volunteers, tour guides and other volunteers who helped make this weekend very successful.

Our total adoptions for Saturday reached 14 with a few more going home after they get spayed and neutered.

It was a great day for so many of our cute kittens, but also for some of our adult kitties who have been with us for a while!

Our 2 Fur special proved to be a great way for our kitties to go home with a buddy!

The following kittens al went home in pairs: Mopsy and Bogart, Samuel Whiskers and Cagney #2, Tessie and Timmie, Cilantro and Pesto! Our other adoptions were Nabisco, Stewart and Magnolia. Other kitties that got adopted or put on hold were Garbo, Gizmo, and Fiona!

Thank you to the “Best Dang Bakery Around” and especially for Ross, one of the owners and the head baker who donated our cookie tray.

Introducing Camp O.P.P.!!

Good Mews is pleased to announce a joint venture with Our Pal’s Place by assisting with their Youth Summer Camp program!  Targeting children in grades 5-8, this camp will focus on how learning kindness and practicing compassion begins with animals.
Good_Mews

One day will be spent at Good Mews to educate them to safely interact with cats, basic cat care and the importance of spay and neutering.  One day will also be spent with the Horse Rescue, Relief and Retirement Fund location.  The remaining 3 days will be spent on location at Our Pal’s Place.

For more information on this camp, click on Camp O.P.P. or download the brochure.

Samantha

Good_Mews

Samantha and her sister, Louise, were abandoned by their owners when they moved.  Who wouldn’t be upset after that??  Samantha is still guarded and learning to trust people again.  She is seeking a very patient home who will give her all the time she needs to adjust.  She enjoys having other kitty friends around!

Meet Your Match

Good Mews is very excited to announce we will be the first shelter in Georgia to roll out the ASPCA®’s Meet Your Match Feline-ality™ Program. We plan to have it up and running by late summer!

Meet your Match for felines was introduced by the ASPCA® in 2007.  The launch of Feline-ality™ in 2007 is the latest addition to the ASPCA®’s Meet Your Match™ constellation of adoption programs that include research-based animal behavior assessments—all aimed at increasing adoption rates, and reducing return rates at shelters, thus combating the problem of pet overpopulation in shelters today.

According to the ASPCA®, “the key to developing successful adoptions lies in making good matches between adopters and pets, thus creating lasting bonds,” said Dr. Emily Weiss, the ASPCA’s senior director of shelter behavior programs, and researcher of ASPCA®’s Meet Your Match™. “Feline-ality™ is a tool that does precisely this; and everyone—adopters, shelter staff, and most of all, the cats—benefits from the program.”

Meet Your Match™ is a program of ASPCA®.
