Rescued Cats from Hoarder

A huge rescue mission occured on January 31, 2007 to help many cats who lived with an alleged hoarder in Gwinnett County. A Good Mews volunteer, along with several other vet techs assisted Dr. Melinda Merck and the wonderful team at Gwinnett Animal Control rescue and perform exams on 36 cats.  They were then placed within the rescue community so there would be no chance they would have to be euthanized in the already overcrowded facility. Five cats are temporarily being housed at the Cat Clinic of Roswell awaiting placement with a rescue group.

Good Mews was able to take in 12 cats, one of the largest rescues we have ever been able to do at one time!  All of these cats are in need of a lot of medical care. Dental work is the most obvious need. Many of these cats have rotting teeth causing severe infections.

Hurley

Good_Mews

Hurley is quite handsome with his long, furry coat. He has a laid back personality and he oftentimes enjoys being a lap cat. What better way to relax and de-stress than with a wonderful new companion!  Hurley would be very happy just to hang out with you.  Besides his affinity for people, Hurley also likes other cats.  This sweet boy was found as a stray in a neighborhood.

Petsmart Charities

Good Mews has been awarded a $6,000 grant for the support and expansion of our foster care program.

Our Grant Committee applied for it last November and just received notification of the award.

This sum will go a long way toward caring for more abandoned and abused kitties in the coming year and we are grateful to the Petsmart Charities Foundation for their generosity and to our Grant Committee for their continuing efforts to secure funding for Good Mews.

This grant will enable us to rescue more cats and kittens from death row in animal control, and bring them to our Good Mews foster homes as space allows.
