Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs.

Good Mews is one of the few virtually cage-free, no-kill cat shelters in the State of Georgia. Since 1988, Good Mews has placed approximately 5,000 cats in permanent homes. The shelter receives no government support, relying solely on donations of time, service and money from its supporters, the public and area businesses. Good Mews is home to approximately 100 residents at any given time, most of whom live at the shelter; some also reside in foster care. We have an average adoption rate of approximately 5 cats per week.

Good Mews provides our residents with regular meals and extensive medical care. The only time our cats are caged is for medical observation and a two week quarantine period upon arrival to the shelter. Once a cat has been accepted into the shelter population, it has a home for life. No cat is ever euthanized to make room for another, and is performed ONLY when a veterinarian has diagnosed that the cat’s quality of life is severely and permanently compromised by sickness or injury.
Our cats come to us from a variety of circumstances. Many of our residents arrive abused, neglected and terribly afraid. Often times, these cats are in urgent need of medical care. During recuperation, our dedicated staff of volunteers spend countless hours cuddling and grooming the cats while they heal so theywill start to trust humans again.
Good Mews is located in The Fountains at Olde Town shopping center just north of the intersection of Lower Roswell and Johnson Ferry Roads. The shelter occupies approximately 2,350 square feet. The combined maximum capacity is 100 cats. There is designated room with shelves and cat trees just for kittens. The main shelter is bright and inviting with numerous shelves, cat trees, beds, and even a t.v. and DVD player, which provides entertainment for the residents.

Big windows allow residents a birds-eye view of passer-bys and there is a living room area where potential adopters may spend one-on-one time with residents. We also have three special needs rooms where cats with special dietary or medical needs can reside comfortably apart from the general shelter population. In the back of the shelter, there is a kitchen area, an Intake Room with cages to observe new residents during the two week quarantine period, and an Isolation Room with cages where cats with contagious conditions are kept for treatment and observation.

Poor Sabrina found herself in a scary situation, something no kitty should have to go through. Sabrina is still a young girl, and she found herself living all alone in some bushes behind an empty house, trying to survive and take care of herself. We don’t know if the house she was living behind was her previous home, or she just found her way there. But regardless, she was all alone, scared and lonely. Thank goodness someone was moving into the home and saw her. He started to feed her, and then when he noticed she had a severe wound on her side, he knew he had to find help for her. We were contacted and we went right over and rescued little Sabrina. She was very happy to have her wound treated, and be safely indoors where nothing could hurt her again.
Sabrina is a little nervous around new people and places because she wants to make sure she can trust you first. Once she does, she is a very sweet girl. She would love to have a home to call her own. Once she feels safe, she will be a lovely companion. Are you the one to give Sabrina the loving home she longs?
