Sagi and Holy...still best buddies!

Here is Dapples...it was a fun first Christmas with the kitties.  They knocked the entire tree over once.  They love to live dangerously and play under the tree.  No, seriously, they made our Christmas happy and fun...it was our first without John’s dad and without Cricket.  I think God sent us these sweet souls to keep us from being sad.  Thanks!

Smithwick's Happy Ending Story

Hi Everyone!  It’s Smithwicks here!

As you may remember I was a bit of a spaz when I was at the shelter and things haven’t changed much, so it’s taken me awhile to sit down and write you.  I spend a lot of time on the computer keyboard while my mom and dad are trying to use it, so I’ve become a great typist.

I came home in June 2005.  I was supposed to be a gift from my dad to my mom, but I’m really my dad’s cat.  He is just the greatest thing in the whole world.  I have to be in whatever room he is in.  I let everyone know when he’s pulling into the driveway.  I make sure he never oversleeps in the morning for work.  I guard him when he’s in the shower.

My favorite things to do are purr and snuggle, protect my forts, survey the house from atop the kitchen cabinets, play with twisted up pipe cleaners, and be combed (one of the only things Mom is good for).  I’m very helpful around the house, too.  I closely supervise all food preparation in the kitchen, once I helped paint a bathroom red, and I make sure none of those birds, squirrels, or chipmunks at the feeders get too close to the windows.

Mom’s OK, too, but she’s the one who always wants to do things like give me a manicure or take me to the vet.  Plus, my older sister, Rose Bud, seems to think Mom belongs to her.  Rosie wasn’t really happy about my arrival but she’s getting used to me and secretly, she really does like playing with me.  Sometimes.  For some reason, she claims she can’t tell if I’m coming up to her for some ear and neck washings or a wrestling smackdown.  I let her think she’s still Alpha Cat.

My parents kept my name, but they pronounce it the Irish way “Smittix” and a lot of time I’m just called “Smitty Kitty” or “Big Boy” or “Bubba”.  I’ve grown quite a bit since these pictures were taken.  I’m about 2 inches taller and 5 pounds heavier now.  In the first and second photos, I am protecting my fort from the intruder, Rose.

Well, I have to go now because it’s time to sprint up and down the hallway for no apparent reason until I can hardly catch my breath!

Tabbi and Edrica's Happy Ending Story

HAPPY ENDINGS STORY FOR EDRICA AND TABBI…

Thanks to Good Mews’ HALO program, I was able to adopt two wonderful old ladies – Edrica and Tabbi—who each had come to the shelter at 6 months of age.  Edrica had aged to 13 and Tabbi to 16 without ever having their own home.  Not any more!!

We enjoyed our one-year anniversary back in August 2006.  They are doing so well, love their forever home, and have gained weight over the last year!  Tabbi is up 1/2 pound to 11.3, and Edrica is up almost 1&1/2 pounds to 10.9.  I like my sweet old ladies to be chunky!

From initially being extremely shy, I can now easily kiss their heads and pet them all over.  Tabbi has become the town crier—she is always on the lookout for me, and whenever she sees me, she starts talking and doesn’t stop until I come into her and Edrica’s room and pet them.  They both have access to the whole house and will occasionally venture out into my office or bedroom closet to sleep, but their room is their sanctuary, and they spend most of their time in there on one or two of their many beds and perches.  Sometimes together and sometimes apart, but still best friends forever!

They send their love and best wishes to all.  They and I are very appreciative of Good Mews’ HALO program!

Snip Pets!

Good_Mews

Carrie Murtha, a Good Mews volunteer has started her own line of art work called the Snip Pets!
Good_Mews

What exactly IS a SnipPet?

It’s simple. A snip~pet is…
1-PET art created with SNIPS of paper, paint and clay.
2-a PET that has been spayed or neutered...the kindest SNIP of all!

Make sure YOUR pet is a SnipPet...it is the only way to stop pet overpopulation and the consequent euthansasia of millions of healthy, adoptable cats and dogs EVERY year!

From Carrie: “I will donate 10% of any art sales generated by you directly to your Spay/Neuter efforts. I always ask each customer how/where they heard about the SnipPets, so that i can easily track what group to donate to.  In addition, I am developing products featuring my SnipPet mascots, Stuart and Sunny SnipPet, and 100% of the profits from those items will go toward your spay/neuter efforts.

I just put 6 SnipPet paintings on Ebay! The starting prices are super low, so you better begin bidding now!

In addition, 10% of the selling price will go to the best cat shelter in the world, Good Mews. I will donate that percentage to their spaying and neutering efforts.”

For just a couple of more days, click SnipPets-Ebay to bid on her work.
