1988-2012... 24 years of purrs... 24 years of purpose...
Dear Good Mews,
It’s me, Kamora! Even though I spent most of my time in the transition room high up on the shelves, I thought I’d let my human friends at Good Mews know how I am. I’ve been at my new forever home for almost 2 months now and I love it! I’m an only cat so my adopted mom spoils me constantly; buying me new toys, treats, a new scratching post, and even my very own stocking for the mantle! (She bought me a nice new bed too but I much prefer the back of the couch.)

Since day one I have adjusted very well and have made myself at home. During the day while she’s at work, I watch all of the birds outside the window and go exploring under the bed but when she comes home I’m all for some cuddling and play time. I’m especially good at helping with lesson plans!

She’s quickly learned that I’m a talker and we’re still working on our communication. What part of “feed me more treats” does she not understand?

Even though I’m no longer allowed to go outside by myself, she bought me a happy cat habitat that she puts outside on the deck. It’s like a big cat tent that I can see through so I can still be outside (supervised) and be safe. So far I’d still rather go outside but I’ll settle for the tent.
I miss my original human mom a lot and I hope she’s safe and knows that I’m being well taken care of here.

Sorry it has taken this long to write. Finals and work have kept my pretty busy. I adopted Elderberry and Justin a few weeks ago. They are both doing great.

Had a rocky start at first between hiding under the couches and underneath the inside of the fridge, but now are doing much better. Justin is still trying to warm up to me but otherwise is very playful.

I renamed them Zeus and Hera. I just wanted to take this time to thank the wonderful staff for helping me get these two wonderful kittens. They are both extremely playful and I have had a lot of fun getting to know them.

I have attached a few pictures I have been able to take, they don’t seem to like posing too much. Thanks again for everything.

Dear Good Mews
It has been exactly one year since Wade came to live with us. We loooooove Wade. He is a sweet sweet baby who just wants to be fed and brushed and loved. He reminded me that it’s time to send you an update on his situation as well as Adam’s (Adam will have his two-year anniversary the first weekend in January).

Wade’s story: It has taken this whole year for him to adjust. He is very skittish, even today though not nearly as bad as when he first came here. He still scampers frantically out of your way, even when he’s not in your way - he just thinks he is. It’s very heart-wrenching to see him so scared when there’s no need for fear. But he gets better every day. (We’re thinking his former home probably had children and/or dogs that ran over him a lot without thinking. We don’t like to speculate on the alternative - that he might have actually been abused.)
Wade was obese when he was returned to Good Mews, at 18 lbs. He lost three pounds during his short stay at the shelter just from stress, but gained all that weight back in a couple weeks at our house. The good vets at CCC put him on a diet – Science Diet OM (Overweight Management) both canned and dried, in controlled portions. He was also very constipated all the time. We tried to get him to eat more wet food to combat the constipation, but after 6-8 months, he had a very bad bout and we took him to CCC for help. The vet suggested we sprinkle a quarter teaspoon of Miralax powder on his wet food morning and evening. What a difference! He is a new cat – running more, jumping up where he never went before, and even running around a bit with Adam. The attached photo of Wade is of him on Bob’s desk in his home office. He jumped up all by himself. He is down to 15 lbs. exactly as of today (Dec. 3), and I’m sure will get down to a healthy weight in the next 6 months or so.

Adam’s story: Well! Mr. Adam, our high-maintenance boy, was not very happy with us when we brought Wade home to live with us. The two of them did not take to this new sharing situation at all. Wade did a whole lot of hissing and swatting, and Adam loved to provoke him. While the two of them still don’t like each other, I’m happy to say they are often seen next to the same human, albeit on opposite sides, and I don’t hear hissing anymore.
Adam likes to be picked up and held, riding on your shoulder or in your arms, and he likes to sit on your lap or lie next to you for a nap. He constantly reminds us that he needs attention and nourishment (feeeeeed me). Ask him and he’ll tell you a guy just can’t get enough food around this place (although he gets fed three times as often as Wade!). Adam sleeps with us on the bed – in between Bob and me. Wade sleeps on my other side. Good thing we have a king-sized bed!
Adam has felt right at home and in complete control since the day we brought him home. He needed no safe room or adjustment period, just moved right in. Within an hour of bringing him home, he was curled up next to Bob on the futon in Bob’s office for nap time. Attached is a photo of Adam curled up by himself on the futon. A guy needs a nap now and then after all that meowing and eating and chasing Wade.

Sweetie’s story: Sweetie is our old lady at 16, nearly 17. We took her in off the streets 15 years ago. She has not adjusted well to either Adam or Wade, and she now has complete solitude in the Master Bedroom suite by day and the Master Bathroom/Closet by night. She has relaxed significantly since we banned the boys from her havens. We have a baby gate at the door to the bedroom, which Sweetie and Adam can jump but Wade can’t. We often open the door while Adam’s napping. The attached photo is Sweetie showing her aggressive side at the gate.

She can leap the gate with ease, and ventures out sometimes. But she always goes flying back into the bedroom when she sees Wade. Wade LOVES to chase Sweetie but can’t leap the gate (at least no yet! We’ll have to watch that.). But she’s old, as she constantly tells us, and just doesn’t need the stress.

That’s it, Good Mews. We have a very active and fun-filled home with our 3 babies and everyone seems happy and adjusting well. Merry Christmas!

Riddler is a little shy in new environments and will sit back and watch all the activity around him. Once he sees that everyone is having a good time and he is safe, he will come out and join in the fun. He is an adorable little fellow that loves to play and wrestle. He loves his sister Stella and they would make a great pair. Come meet this cutie-pie soon!
