Description
Nutmeg came to Good Mews in January of 2007, and immediately took to hiding in cat trees, especially on busy adoption days. However, she has come a long way in overcoming her shyness. The Kitty Buddies (Good Mews volunteers who help shy cats get used to people) have really made a positive difference in Nutmeg’s life. She finally feels confident enough to venture out into the shelter, and on quiet days can now often be found in the main room instead of off in a corner. Nutmeg will need a quiet home and lots of love and patience to help her adjust, but will surely reward you with her faithful companionship! Come and meet her!

Olive and Madison are two darling sisters who lost their home when their elderly parents could no longer care for them due to health issues. They have been through a lot of changes in their life and are a little nervous, but I think once they get into a new stable home, they will be just perfect. They have been through a couple of moves and there were dogs in their last home that chased them, and they did not like that. Now they are at the shelter, which is another big change. But they seem to be doing OK and they are enjoying all the attention they are getting from the volunteers. They love people and like it when we pet them.
Their previous parents said they liked to sleep with them and one of their favorite things to do is lay on top of them and see them smile. They even liked to help with the chores and wanted to help wash dishes! Now I can’t get my own cats to do anything around the house so it sure would be nice to have a couple cats willing to help wash dishes!
Olive is a very vocal kitty and has a lot to say! She likes attention and loves to be held and cuddled and kissed. Madison is also very social and loves to sit in people’s laps and cuddle. Both girls are petite and just precious!
Olive and Madison are two very special kitties that are looking for a special home. If you would like to provide them with that home, come to the shelter and ask for Olive and Madison!

Olivia and Cookie were rescued from animal control right before they were scheduled to be euthanized! They are very lucky girls and happy to be safe. They both went into foster care until space was available at the shelter. They are very sweet girls that enjoy the company of people and would love on their foster mom. They might be a little shy when they first get to their new home, but will quickly come around. They love to play with toys and their foster mom spoiled them with lots of yummy treats! Olivia and Cookie love to spend time with other and are best girlfriends. They enjoy sleeping in the sunshine together and talking girl-talk. Since they are best friends, we do not want to split them up and would like to find them a forever home together. So if you are looking for two great girlfriends to join your family, then come meet Olivia and Cookie. These girls are a lot of fun!

Poor Peaches was found wandering around a parking lot, all alone and sick! That must have been very scary for her. I know I would be scared if I was in that situation!
Thank goodness someone found her and we had space open at Good Mews. We nursed her back to health and she is feeling much better. She is also very happy to be safe in a comfy office. Yes, Peaches has her own office! She is such a Diva she said she did not want to share her space with others, so we accommodated her needs and she now lives in her own office. But an office is only so big and I know she would love to have a whole house to herself with lots of windows to look out of. If you would like to share your home with this feisty girl, come by and meet her. Oh, and since Peaches is such a Diva, she will only share her home with humans, no other cats, thank you very much!
Update-The staff has started letting Peaches visit the other kitties in the main shelter during the day and Peaches does great! She has been getting along with everyone so we feel Peaches would do okay going to a home with one other cat. But she still wants to be treated like the queen of the household!

Penguin came to Good Mews after he was seriously injured. We think he was hit by a car. He required many weeks of cage rest because he could not even stand! Once he was feeling better and could walk, he was released into the main shelter. He was happy to be able to finally walk around, but I don’t think he was very thrilled with all of the other cats he had to share his space with! So Penguin likes to keep to himself, lounging in a big cat bed. As a result, he is often over-looked on adoption days. But I know this sweet boy wishes for a loving family. He likes people, but never walks up to them, asking for attention. What he will do is walk towards you and stop a couple feet from you and just sit. That is his way of asking you to come pet him! And once you start petting him, he loves it! I really love Penguin and I hope he finds his forever home soon. He would make a great only cat and he doesn’t ask for much. He would also do fine with one or two other cats.

Perry came from a horrible situation in Florida . They were living at a cat sanctuary with over 400 other cats where they were supposed to be well taken care of until they found a loving home. But unfortunately that wasn’t the case. They were greatly neglected and some were used for medical experiments. Complaints were filed and the sanctuary was investigated. Because of the horrible neglect and animal cruelty, the sanctuary was shut down. Some of the cats had to be humanely euthanized and the others found new homes or rescue. The University of Florida Vet School was involved with the case and contacted Good Mews to ask if we would be willing to take some of the cats involved in this situation. Of course we could! We told them we would be happy to help in any way we can! They then transported 4 wonderful cats to us!
When Perry was rescued he was close to death, but the vets worked very hard to keep Perry alive. And thank goodness, because this is one special boy! Perry is very affectionate and loves people. He likes to sit in a lap to cuddle and will purr up a storm. He wants nothing more than a nice family of his own and for someone to love him. And we feel this sweet boy deserves it. Please come by and meet Perry.

Belinda and Provolone make the perfect couple. Yes, she is a bit older than him, but there is nothing wrong with being in love with a younger man, or an older woman!
How did these two love-birds meet? I will tell you:
Belinda was adopted from the shelter when she was a kitten. A few years later, she was returned to Good Mews. She was so depressed she had to be force-fed. She did not understand why she lost her home, so she did not want to go on living. But we were not going to let her die! So we fed her by hand, and gave her tons of love and told her not to worry, life would get better!
Provolone also came to the shelter as a kitten. He was the shyest kitten in his litter. He watched all his siblings go to forever homes, but nobody ever picked him. Before he knew it he was removed from the kitten room and placed in the shelter with the big kitties. So he made the best of it and tried to make friends. Then one day he saw a sad kitty sitting all alone. He went to comfort her and soon Belinda was back to her happy self. She found someone to love.
These 2 are always found together, snuggling. Lots of times we will see Provolone lying right on top of Belinda, I don’t know how she breaths. But she is not bothered by it.
Both are a little shy, but still love people. Once you start to pet Belinda she begins to purr…and she has the loudest purr!! Provolone is a very sweet boy and is starting to enjoy people petting him and showering him with affection. He feels more comfortable when he is with Belinda and will allow you to hug and kiss him, as long as she is around. They are seeking a quiet home together. If you are looking for 2 extremely bonded cats, please come meet this couple!

Joansey lost her home when her family could no longer take care of her. She is a little sad and confused because she has been with them for so long and does not understand why she is now in this strange place and not with her loving family. We tried to explain to her that her family fell on hard times and needed to find her a new home. We hope she understands. Joansey is a beautiful girl, so hopefully that new loving home will come along soon. Joansey’s family said she likes to get lion cuts once a year. It makes her feel like a princess! So if you are looking for someone to treat like royalty, then come meet Joansey!
