What is Mickel’s favorite thing in the world? Kittens!! Mickel would make the perfect foster brother. If you have kittens and are overwhelmed, then Mickel is the man to help you out! He is often found sitting outside the kitten room, playing footsies under the door with all the babies. I bet he could sit there for hours!
OK, so maybe it will be hard to find him a home where he can play foster brother, but I am sure he would be happy just having a home! Mickel is often over-looked because of his shyness. But like all shy cats, if given loads of attention, he will surely come around. If you would like to have this beautiful boy in your life and are willing to give him time, please come meet him soon. And if you are also looking to adopt a kitten or two, that would thrill him to death!
I am a member of the kitty keeper program so even if you cannot adopt, you can sponsor me!

ADOPTED WITH EMMY!
Emmy and Molly came to Good Mews because their dad was deployed to his third tour in Iraq. He contacted us and asked for our help. He provided them with a very good home and he wanted to make sure they found a new home and trusted that we would do that for him. We promised we would.
He describes Molly as very outgoing and a big talker with whom you can always carry on a conversation with. She is fond of having her chest rubbed while cradled in your arms. She is also very playful.
Emmy is a little more quiet but a total lap cat that likes to suck her toes! She likes to follow you around the kitchen, and then lie at your feet and purr.
They both love to eat and enjoy dry and canned food. One of their favorite treats is lettuce!
They are both loving kitties that enjoy people and get along great with children. They would make a wonderful addition to most families. Please come meet these darling sisters soon. They are required to go home together.

Moonpie and some of her friends came to Good Mews from a shelter in Alabama. That shelter was shut down and some of their former volunteers contacted us and asked if we would be willing to take in some of their cats. They had 80 cats to place and were struggling to find placement or homes for all of them. We feel it is important that all rescues need to work together so we were more than happy to help them. We went to pick up the kitties and they did very well on their long trip back to Good Mews. Now we have promised all of them that we will find them a wonderful new home to call their own.
Moonpie is a darling little girl with the most beautiful golden eyes. She makes me laugh because she craves attention and will come up to me and rub all over my hand and ask for pets, but if I give her too much attention, she will growl at me. I think she is just being silly and I know in time she will stop growling. She is just confused and probably doesn’t understand that all the love and attention I am trying to give her is a good thing. I am positive Moonpie will flourish to be a wonderful, affectionate kitty. I can already see it in her.
Update-I have been spending some time with Moonpie and she has stopped growling! She really is a darling little girl. She is still a little shy, but if you hold her, she will cuddle into you, so she does love attention. Once she finds her forever home, she will need some time to adjust, but I know once she starts to feel comfortable, she will be the most wonderful companion. She just needs someone to give her that chance.

It’s hard to find a cat who likes being petted and loved on more than Morris! He’ll show you with his purrs and by pushing on your hand and curling against your arm as you pet him. Morris was rescued from a hoarding situation, where someone took in a lot more cats than they were capable of caring for, so they were unable to treat a condition he has where his eyelashes grow inward. This caused his corneas to be scarred and his eyes to have a foggy appearance. However, he does have some sight because you’ll find him chasing toys and tossing them up in the air! He finds his way around the shelter, and will voluntarily jump into your lap! Good Mews funded his surgery to correct the condition, and now he gets daily eye drops. In spite of all this, Morris has a wonderful attitude and is very happy. He loves people and would make a faithful companion. If you are looking for someone that will love you unconditionally, then Morris is your guy!

Nadia is ready for a quiet, loving home after a few rough months! First, she was abandoned outside in May in a neighborhood in Lexington KY. She managed to find a feral colony and the kind colony caretaker was concerned about this scared new visitor. Eventually the caretaker was able to get close enough to realize that poor Nadia was declawed
and completely defenseless. To top it off, some of the more dominant
feral kitties were beating her up and wouldn’t allow her to eat. The
caretaker tried to find an indoor home for Nadia and a family took her
in but she was terrified of their boisterious child so back outside
she went. Fortunately, Miss Nadia’s luck turned around when another KY
cat lady contacted Good Mews and they agreed to take her in! Nadia was
extremely thin and not feeling very well at first, but her appetite has improved and she is doing so much better. Sweet Nadia is a beautiful girl with a tiny bobtail that wiggles when she is happy. And what makes her happiest is to be sitting in a warm lap! As soon as you
lie down in the bed, she will crawl right onto your legs and purr.
Nadia is gentle and low key and just wants to be with someone who will
give her the wonderful life she deserves.
Nadia is front declawed.

Billie Holiday and Nina Simone are two beautiful cats that can’t wait to find their new home.
Billie and Nina were abandoned years ago at the Fernbank. An employee was able to provide them with a loving home for several years, but she fell on hard times and recently lost her home. She contacted her friends at the Fernbank and asked if they were able to help. We were contacted and since we had room, we said we would be happy to help find these ladies a new home!
Nina is still a little unsure of her situation and does not understand why she lost her home. Right now she is very afraid. She has her own special room so volunteers can spend time with her so she can start trusting people. Nina is a beautiful girl, and I know in time she will come around. She deserves to have a home of her own again and I know all of our wonderful volunteers will work hard to help her and will not give up until this sweet girl learns to love people again!
Update-Nina has made a lot of progress in the past few months. She is still shy around strangers, but once she gets to know someone, she is a very loving kitty. She enjoys to be petted and her favorite thing is to be brushed. You can place her on your lap, or in front of you and brush her, and she will purr like she is in heaven! She will need a little time to adjust to a new home, but once she does and knows that her new person loves her, she will be the most loyal companion. Nina does enjoy the company of other cats, so she will need a home where another kitty or two lives
Update-Nina adores her roommate Herbie if anyone would like to adopt 2 kitties that love each other!!

Description
Fiaca and Noelle are two beautiful petite girls that were abandoned along with their siblings. All of their siblings have since been adopted, but Fiaca and Noelle are over-looked on adoption days because they are very shy. Since they were abandoned, we do not know their history, but my guess is something scary must have happened to them. We are hoping one day they will learn to trust us, but it is going to take a lot of time and patience.
These sweet girls are extremely bonded and are often found curled up in a bed together. It is rare to see one without the other. So we would never dream of separating them.
There are times when an adopter comes through our door looking for a “hard to adopt” cat because they want to give a cat a home that does not have the same chance as the more adoptable cats. Right now we feel that is the type of person that will have to adopt Fiaca and Noelle, because they are so shy.
We always hear back from these adopters and the stories they tell us about these “hard to adopt” cats are wonderful! Whether these cats come around in 1 month or 1 year, they do come around! And I truly believe Fiaca and Noelle are no exception, if given the chance. They have already made great progress since coming to the shelter, and I know once in a quiet home, with the right family, they will blossom to be lovely girls!
**Update** Fiaca and Noelle are in a special room so volunteers can work with them and show them that people aren’t so bad! And it is working. They enjoy us petting them and we brush them and they purr and purr and Noelle even leaned towards me and gave me a kiss. So I know once in a quiet home, these girls will come around and be wonderful companions. They just need a chance.

Ralph and friends lost their home when their guardian had to leave town for a very long extended period of time and he did not have anyone to care for them. He was very sad to have to re-home his cats and we could see how painful it was for him, so we agreed to help. It is always hard to have to leave your furry friends behind but sometimes you have to make decisions that are in the best interest of the cats, and that is what he did. We promised him they were safe with us and we would provide them with all the love and care that he did until new homes could be found.
Right now they are scared and confused and do not understand where they are, which is always the case with cats that come from loving homes. This behavior is nothing new to us and we are prepared. We are going to do all we can to make them feel loved and secure and give them a lot of attention and in no time they will start to feel better. They will soon realize Good Mews is a fun place, not a scary place!
Just by petting and sitting with them, I know they are sweet cats. They are beautiful kitties and I am looking forward to learning more about them. Once I do, I will give updates!
Ed and Ralph are very handsome boys that look like twins! Ed is a little shyer than Ralph but both are friendly kitties that enjoy being petted and kissed. I really like these guys. They appear to really love each other so they are seeking a home together.
As always, we will be open every Saturday from 10am-4pm.
Starting in 2010, we will be open the 2nd ,3rd, and 4th Sunday of the month from 1pm-4pm.
