Description
It’s hard to find a cat who likes being petted and loved on more than Morris! He’ll show you with his purrs and by pushing on your hand and curling against your arm as you pet him. Morris was rescued from a hoarding situation, where someone took in a lot more cats than they were capable of caring for, so they were unable to treat a condition he has where his eyelashes grow inward. This caused his corneas to be scarred and his eyes to have a foggy appearance. However, he does have some sight because you’ll find him chasing toys and tossing them up in the air! He finds his way around the shelter, and will voluntarily jump into your lap! Good Mews funded his surgery to correct the condition, and now he gets daily eye drops. In spite of all this, Morris has a wonderful attitude and is very happy. He loves people and would make a faithful companion. If you are looking for someone that will love you unconditionally, then Morris is your guy!

ADOPTED!!
Mr. Furly is a handsome boy, who is also very affectionate! How he ended up losing his home is beyond me. A kind couple said he showed up outside their home one day. They suspect he was abandoned after their neighbors moved out next door. They took him in and fell in love with him, but the feelings weren’t mutual with their other cats! They wanted to do what was right for Mr. Furly, and wanted him to be in a home where he could have some kitty playmates, so they asked if we could find Mr. Furly the perfect home. I don’t think we will have a problem, because this guy is wonderful! He is very handsome and friendly. The couple that rescued him said they never once heard him hiss, that he is very outgoing and just wants to be everyone’s friend! He also loves to be held and will give you little kisses on your neck. You better come meet Mr. Furly soon, I don’t think he will be here very long!

Ms. Kat is a darling girl that is very lucky to now be at Good Mews! She showed up at a nice lady’s house a couple of years ago with a broken leg. The lady was unable to touch her, but felt so sad for Ms. Kat, she fed her and Ms. Kat stayed around. Eventually the leg started to heal on its own, but Ms. Kat was never able to run on it. Ms. Kat started to come around and let the lady finally touch her and Ms. Kat became a very affectionate, playful kitty. But unfortunately, her caretaker was unable to bring Ms. Kat inside the home. Because of coyote sightings in the area, the lady started to worry about Ms. Kat’s safety and her inability to run because of her leg, so she contacted Good Mews to see if we had space available. We couldn’t stand to think of poor Ms. Kat being attacked by a coyote so we said to bring Ms. Kat right over! We are going to get Ms. Kat’s leg all fixed up and find her a wonderful home where she will not have to worry about living outside again. Come meet this sweetie soon. She is a very sweet girl that wants nothing more than a home to call her own.

Poor Neil..if he was afraid of people, I sure wouldn’t blame him. But as it turns out, Neil loves people! Someone was very mean to him and hit him over the head with a baseball bat, resulting in him being deaf and having a partial head tilt. We can’t believe someone would do that to him, but Neil has decided to just forgive and get on with his life.
He is a very sweet boy that loves to sit and chat with you. He is a big talker! He also has a best friend named Max that he really depends on. These 2 boys are looking for a home together where they will be safe and loved.

Billie Holiday and Nina Simone are two beautiful cats that can’t wait to find their new home.
Billie and Nina were abandoned years ago at the Fernbank. An employee was able to provide them with a loving home for several years, but she fell on hard times and recently lost her home. She contacted her friends at the Fernbank and asked if they were able to help. We were contacted and since we had room, we said we would be happy to help find these ladies a new home!
Nina is still a little unsure of her situation and does not understand why she lost her home. Right now she is very afraid. She has her own special room so volunteers can spend time with her so she can start trusting people. Nina is a beautiful girl, and I know in time she will come around. She deserves to have a home of her own again and I know all of our wonderful volunteers will work hard to help her and will not give up until this sweet girl learns to love people again!
Check back for updates on Nina’s progress!

Fiaca and Noelle are two beautiful petite girls that were abandoned along with their siblings. All of their siblings have since been adopted, but Fiaca and Noelle are over-looked on adoption days because they are very shy. Since they were abandoned, we do not know their history, but my guess is something scary must have happened to them. We are hoping one day they will learn to trust us, but it is going to take a lot of time and patience.
These sweet girls are extremely bonded and are often found curled up in a bed together. It is rare to see one without the other. So we would never dream of separating them.
There are times when an adopter comes through our door looking for a “hard to adopt” cat because they want to give a cat a home that does not have the same chance as the more adoptable cats. Right now we feel that is the type of person that will have to adopt Fiaca and Noelle, because they are so shy.
We always hear back from these adopters and the stories they tell us about these “hard to adopt” cats are wonderful! Whether these cats come around in 1 month or 1 year, they do come around! And I truly believe Fiaca and Noelle are no exception, if given the chance. They have already made great progress since coming to the shelter, and I know once in a quiet home, with the right family, they will blossom to be lovely girls!
**Update** Fiaca and Noelle are in a special room so volunteers can work with them and show them that people aren’t so bad! And it is working. They enjoy us petting them and we brush them and they purr and purr and Noelle even leaned towards me and gave me a kiss. So I know once in a quiet home, these girls will come around and be wonderful companions. They just need a chance.

Nutmeg came to Good Mews in January of 2007, and immediately took to hiding in cat trees, especially on busy adoption days. However, she has come a long way in overcoming her shyness. The Kitty Buddies (Good Mews volunteers who help shy cats get used to people) have really made a positive difference in Nutmeg’s life. She finally feels confident enough to venture out into the shelter, and on quiet days can now often be found in the main room instead of off in a corner. Nutmeg will need a quiet home and lots of love and patience to help her adjust, but will surely reward you with her faithful companionship! Come and meet her!
