1988-2008... 20 years of purrs... 20 years of purpose...
We have some exciting news for the shelter!
Good Mews has been awarded a challenge grant from The Arthur and Helen Baer Charitable Foundation to be used for the purposes of remodeling and updating our Medical Ward.
Good Mews has always been proud of the outstanding medical care that we provide for our residents and making much-needed improvements will make it easier for volunteers to implement our high standards.
We will be getting several brand new larger cages to help reduce the stress on our kitties at Intake or when they are caged due to illness.

Our medical isolation room will be getting a sink, new cabinets to improve sanitation, baskets on each cage for specific medicines, as well as a new microwave and small refrigerator all in the isolation room. These improvements will allow all medical work for the sick cats to be handled in one room only to help decrease the spread of disease.
If we all pitch in, we can meet this challenge. Any donation amount is helpful….$5, $10, $25, $100… Any funds exceeding $5,000 will be used for the medical care of our cats.

Thanks so much for everyone who voted for us again in 2008. We couldn’t do this without the support of our friends, supporters, volunteers, donors and adopters.
Dear GoodMews,
We are very pleased with our adopted daughters, Maui & Tiki. They have adapted well and transitioned very easily into our home. The sisters are very active, loving and provide lots of affection.

We are excited to launch our new community based program called Operation Zero, just in time to celebrate Spay Day USA 2009 which officially is February 24, 2009.
Operation Zero is designed to assist the community with getting their animals spayed and neutered by offering FREE certificates for people who financially cannot afford to do so.
For the year 2009, in a joint effort with our Internal Grant Committee and Board designated fund raising drives. we plan to raise the funds to get the program underway.
Recently we raised $650 from our fundraiser with Amores which will go into the Operation Zero fund.

Lauder was originally adopted from Good Mews in 1998 when she was just 5 months old. Last year her owner passed away. Luckily for Lauder, her owner’s friend took Lauder into her home when her friend passed.

Lauder’s foster mom has many cats of her own and discussed with us about taking Lauder back. However, Lauder has always been an only cat and seems scared of other cats. In her foster home she is able to have a room of her own but in the shelter it would be more difficult.
Since Lauder is a GM cat, we have decided that rather than her coming back to us her foster mom has agreed to keep her but put her up for adoption through Good Mews. Starting around the middle of February she will come up to the shelter on Saturday and be available for adoption. She is approximately 11 1/2-12 years of age, still playful, sweet and front declawed.
Here is a bit about Lauder from her foster mom:
We will continue to foster her in our home until she is adopted, no matter how long it takes. :-) As you may know, Lauder was adopted out from your group about 11yrs ago when she was about 1 yr old by our friend Randi Bridges. Unfortunately, Randi passed away in March of 2008 and being animal lovers we took her cat in (no one else in her family could take her ).
Without confirmation by your records, we estimate she is about 12yrs old (this is what we remember Randi telling us about her). She is front declawed, indoor only of course, very sweet, still loves to play a bit with string and fuzzy mice. She is extremely shy at first and will take a couple of weeks to warm up to a new owner. After she gets to know you, she is the sweetest girl and will lay in your lap and ask for affection. Her favorite thing is to sleep under the covers with you and she loves to lay by the window to watch the birds and squirrels.
She will need to go to a home where they will be patient with her. She does not do well with loud noises, so she needs a quiet home with no young children (older/grown children should be fine). She weighs between 10-12lbs.
